Yesterday we celebrated the Fourth of July. We swimmed in our swimming pool. Dad was home and he fixed the filter to the pool and he surprised us with a pool volleyball net and ball! He also got new swimming rings for Richard and Webb and also new flippers, snorkels, and face masks for the bigger kids.

We played hot potato with the volleyball. That's a game where you set Dad's watch timer for thirty seconds and then you pass the ball all around and whoever has the ball when the timer goes off, they're out, and they have to wait until the next round. Then, all the winners play to find the winner of the tournament. I won one round and played in the grand finale and so did Richard and Sarah Grace. Guess who won? The youngest in the family, my three-year-old brother, Richard, won the grand finale! Everybody was splashing and singing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" and water was getting in my eyes and I just closed my eyes and kept on splashing.

After swimming, Dad cooked steaks on the grill and Mom grilled onions and peppers and Sarah Grace made a nice salad with spinach and black olives and tomatoes and pineapples and mandarin oranges and cucumbers, but they ran out of time to make croutons. We had to hurry up because we went to Gilbert to see the firework show at the Peach Festival.

The Peach Festival is a huge party with rides and Shealy's barbecue and camel rides (he eats peaches) and a parade and a rock climb and Peach Queens and bands and dancers and singers and artists and craftsmen and a street dance and the best peach ice cream in the world!

We didn't go to the whole festival this year but we went out to see the firework show and get peach ice cream. The firework show has thousands of people all over the town but we always sit in fold up chairs on a hill by the field in front of where all the fire engines park in case there is a fire.

The show was fabulous! It has huge explosions of colorful fire that feel like they are reaching out to you. Some look like crackly, sparkling, willow trees and some are loud bursts of bright colors.

The Fourth of July is the best day of my life! The Fair is one of my best days, but the Fourth of July is better. It has fireworks, peach ice cream, swimming, games, grilled steaks and onions, watermelon... it has it all!

The Fourth of July is Independence Day when we celebrate seceding from England and starting a new country, and that's why Mom said, "Happy Secession Day!"

Man, I wish I could just rewind to yesterday.
